Wikipedia's Got Your Back


This will be the final introductory post to the whole concept of the Derby. I provided a link to the Wikipedia entry because I am sure you would never have looked it up.

Wikipedia says this:

"The first All-American race was held in Dayton on August 19, 1934, after an idea by Myron Scott, a photographer for the Dayton Daily News. The following year, the race was moved to Akron because of its central location and hilly terrain. In 1936, Akron civic leaders recognized the need for a permanent track site for the youth racing classic and, through the efforts of the Works Progress Administration (WPA), Derby Downs became a reality.....Keep going if you really want to."

Welcome


"Big Red Rocket of Love" was created to document the building of Soap Box Racers for the 2008 Bernal Hill Soap Box Derby. The name of the site comes from a conversation held between myself and my cousin/fellow-soon-to-be-racer Chris involving the derby and Reverend Horton Heat. After said conversation I talked to a few more friends and we agreed over a few cold ones that we were actually going to try and follow through with the build and race. We will see. ...continue.
